Shoalhaven News, 10th January 1891 - J. Dailey’s application for a 40 acre mineral lease, Parish of Yalwal, has been approved.

SN, 18th July 1891 - J. Dailey, and another’s, Mineral Lease (Portion ML 31) at Yalwal is ready for delivery.

SN, 15th July 1893 - J. Dailey’s 40 acre mineral lease, Parish of Yalwal, was cancelled on Tuesday last.

 

DALEY, Edward

Shoalhaven News, 21st October 1893 - Edward Daley, resident of Yalwal, was charged with indecent conduct in Nowra and fined 5s. He is also fined 20s for indecent language.

DAVIDGE, Charles George

1891 - 1892 Electoral Roll - No. 458. Charles Davidge, residence Yalwal.

Shoalhaven Telegraph, 27th April 1892 - Mrs. Davidge, in blue print, attends a Grand Ball held on Easter Monday night.

29th October 1892 - A daughter, Gertrude Mary, is born to Charles and Mary Ann Davidge. Charles is listed as a miner of Yalwal.

ST, 14th December 1892 - Charles Davidge is injured in a blasting accident. He is not in much pain and is hopeful that his eye is not permanently ruined.

21st December 1892 - Gertrude Mary is Baptised by E. Wootton.

Shoalhaven News, 21st January 1893 - Mr. Charles Davidge is to proceed to St. Vincent’s, Sydney, to consult an oculist about his right eye. The sight of his other eye has been completely restored.

28th September 1894 - A son, Charles Auguste, is born to Charles and Mary Ann Davidge. Charles is listed as a miner of Yalwal.

29th October 1894 - Charles Auguste is Baptised by F.J. Dillon.

ST, 1st February 1896 - The Eclipse Mine is let on tribute to C. and W. Davidge, R. Stonehouse, J. Cruickshank, A. Peters and Thomas Kells, from Nathan Basser.

ST, 27th April 1898 - The license of the Pioneer Hotel is transferred from A. Linkenbagh to Charles Davidge.

ST, 27th April 1898 - “Mr. A. Linkenbagh, of the Pioneer Hotel, Yalwal, has leased the premises to Mr. C. Davidge. Mr. and Mrs. Linkenbagh, who look remarkably well, have decided to take a well-earned rest.”

ST, 23 November 1898 - Charles Davidge’s license for the Pioneer Hotel is renewed.

16th December 1899 - Report on Yalwal School of Arts from L. Johnson (Teacher) to Inspector of Schools, Wollongong: Charles Davidge is named as a committeeman, he also signs a subsidy guarantee. (SRNSW 20/13079)

ST, 3rd April 1897 - “Two Yalwal miners who went to New Zealand some weeks ago state that it has been raining there ever since they arrived.”

20th January 1900 - A daughter, Lillian Ida, is born to William Joseph & Kate Helen Davidge. William is listed as Hotel Keeper at Yalwal.

11th March 1900 - Lillian Ida is Baptised by H.M. Trickett.

22nd January 1903 - A son, Leonard William is born to William and Kate. William is listed as a miner at Yalwal.

9th February 1903 - Leonard William is Baptised by W. Newby-Fraser.

15th July 1905 - A son, Jack Augustus, is born to William and Kate. William is listed as Publican of Yalwal.

DAVIDSON, George - Police Constable

Shoalhaven Telegraph, 12th February 1894 - Before the Licensing Court, Mr. Blackmore intimates that a policeman is to be appointed at Yalwal.

Shoalhaven News, 12th January 1895 - Constable George Davidson, of Yalwal, has been appointed an Inspector of slaughter-houses, with power to act anywhere in the district on transfer.

June - July 1896 - Made purchases from Yalwal General Store. (Shoalhaven Museum Yalwal General Store Ledger S 1251)

21st August 1896 - A daughter, Stella Mary, is born to George and Mary Jane Davidson. George is listed as Police Officer at Yalwal.

ST, 4th November 1896 - Davidson charges Henry Keller and Thomas Linkenbagh after they come to blows at Yalwal.

6th July 1897 - Stella Mary is Baptised by Edward Owen.

ST, 21st July 1897 - Davidson charges Morgan with cruelty to a horse.

ST, 8th September 1897 - Court Case: Hugh M’Kenzie v. Henry M’Grath, Yalwal.

ST, 1st December 1897 - Constable George Davidson gives evidence at the Coronial Inquiry into the death of Mrs. Clauss at Yalwal.

ST, 22nd January 1898 - King v. Hay: George Davidson, Mining Registrar at Yalwal.

ST, 23rd February 1898 - Constable Davidson gives evidence at the Coronial Inquiry into the death of John Minnikin.

1899 - 1900 Electoral Roll - No. 2123. George Davidson, Yalwal, Police Constable.

29th January 1904 - George Davidson, Police Constable of Yalwal, dies at age 38.

31st January 1904 - George Davidson is buried at Yalwal Cemetery. The ceremony is performed by W. Newby-Fraser.

3rd May 1904 - Mary Jane Davidson is granted a Gratuity of L101 5s., also L7 for funeral expenses. SRNSW Reel 2658 p. 119)

6th November 1901 - A son, William George, is born to Arthur and Theresa. Arthur is listed as a miner at Yalwal.

25th August 1902 - William George is Baptised by W. Newby-Fraser.

6th June 1904 - A daughter, Evelyn Lilian, is born. Arthur is listed as a miner at Yalwal.

29th November 1904 - Evelyn Lilian is Baptised by W. Newby-Fraser.

15th August 1906 - A son, Arthur Robert, is born. Arthur is listed as a miner, Jervis Street Nowra.

12th February 1907 - Arthur Robert is Baptised by Ronald J. Cameron.

Shoalhaven Telegraph, 21st December 1892 - Thomas Gilbert v. F.W. King, J. Irwin and W. Davis for wages. King had sub-let the Pinnacle Mine to Irwin and Davis. The case against King is dismissed and a verdict is given against Irwin and Davis.

Shoalhaven News, 22nd July 1893 - W. Davis v. W.E. Barry for wages. Struck out as Davis did not hold a miner’s right during the time he worked.

January 1895 - A son, Herbert James, is born to William John and Catherine Davis. William is listed as a miner at Yalwal.

3rd August 1895 - Herbert James is Baptised by E. Wootten.

June - July 1896 - Made purchases from Yalwal General Store. (Shoalhaven Museum Yalwal General Store Ledger S 1251)

16th November 1898 - A daughter, Edith Elsie, is born. William is listed as a miner at Yalwal.

DAWSON, William

13th February 1893 - Lease Register: No. 215 GL 14. Dawson, letter No. 93 - 1921, states that he is a shareholder in the Homeward Bound Mine. (SRNSW Reel 1538)

Shoalhaven News, 24th June 1893 - The Homeward Bound Case: William Dawson’s evidence was published in the previous issue which is missing.

Australian Town and Country Journal, 12th June 1873 - Report on Denny’s Pulveriser and Buddle.

Shoalhaven Telegraph, 29th April 1880 - Report on Denny’s machine.

ST, 1st March 1883 - Pinnacle Mine: Mr. Denny, of Bathurst, recently bought the Engine and crushing plant for L575. The lease with 200 tons of stone was sold for L13.

ST, 19th April 1883 - Messrs. Denny and Palmer have recently purchased the Pinnacle Company battery and claim.

ST, 24th May 1883 - The Pinnacle Mine is now in possession of James Kelly & Co. W.H. Denny is superintending the Pinnacle Battery.

 

DENNIS

Shoalhaven Telegraph, 20th March 1889 - Pinnacle Case: “Heron carried on for a certain time when owing to want of funds he had to cease working in the month of May last. Subsequently a Mr. Dennis came down and examined the mine taking possession on behalf of Messrs. Cope and King.....”

ST, 11th February 1891 - August Linkenbagh v. Edward Dennis, L13 1s 6d for board and lodging. Dennis recently had a contract at Yalwal but was now residing in Wollongong. Case continued for proof of service.

ST, 29th April 1891 - Dennis is listed as a sub-contractor to O’Keefe in the construction of the road between Upper and Lower Yalwal.

17th September 1880 - Petition signed by Henry Dickstall calling for a Public School at Yalwal. (SRNSW 5/18232.1)

1880 - 1881 Church of England - H. Dickstall, of Yalwal, contributes 5s to the Nowra Church Fund.

 

DIGNAM

23rd November 1892 - A daughter, Elizabeth Florence Madge, is born to Howard and an unnamed mother. Howard is listed as a Storekeeper at Yalwal.

7th January 1893 - Elizabeth Florence Madge is Baptised by E. Wootton.

DIXON

Shoalhaven Telegraph, 28th December 1887 - Galbraith v. Heron: Heron deposed “..... I was speaking to a man named Dixon when Galbraith came up.....” “I got only 17s [wages] the whole term of Galbraith’s management, Dixon got L2.”

ST, 22nd July 1891 - J. Dixon sings at a concert, in the School of Arts, in aid of a distressed family.

DOYLE, Alfred

Shoalhaven Telegraph, 26th October 1887 - Cricket Match: Burrier v. Yalwal at Burrier. A. Doyle scores a duck in both innings. Burrier win the match.

ST, 23rd November 1887 - Cricket Match: Burrier v. Yalwal. This is the first match played at Yalwal and causes great interest. A. Doyle scores 1 and 12 runs. Burrier win by 17 runs.

ST, 29th February 1888 - Cricket Match: Mechanics Cricket Club v. Yalwal at the Recreation Ground, Nowra. A. Doyle scores 0 and 6 runs in a match which Yalwal lose.

ST, 28th March 1888 - Cricket Match: Mechanics C.C. v. Yalwal. A. Doyle scores 1 and 7 runs in a match won by 91 runs by the Mechanics.

ST, 8th January 1890 - A. Doyle donates 10s to the Yalwal School of Arts Building Fund.

ST, 11th November 1891 - An application for the improvement purchase of 1 acre, Dangera, by Alfred Doyle is adjourned.

ST, 11th May 1891 - Alfred Doyle, i.p., 1 acre Danjera, is refused.
