The Argus, 24th January 1874 :
“Two seamen arrived at the Jarvis Bay [Jervis Bay] lighthouse and reported that the brig Rose of Australia, from Melbourne, was totally wrecked during the night in Wreck Bay. The crew were saved.”
The Brisbane Courier, 24th January 1874 :
The brig Rose of Australia, from China to Sydney, with a cargo of teas, has been wrecked off Ulladulla, near Jarvis Bay [Jervis Bay]. The crew were all saved.”
The Argus, 28th January 1874 :
“ ‘By Telegram from Jervis Bay,’ says the Sydney Morning Herald, ‘we learn that the Rose of Australia, brig, 262 tons, Captain Desborough, from Melbourne the 15th inst., bound for this port [Sydney] with a portion of her original cargo from Foo-chow, went ashore in Wreck Bay, at 11 p.m. on Thursday, and became a total wreck. Mrs. Desborough and her two children, as also the whole of the crew, were saved, having been got ashore by means of lines from the wrecked vessel, and are now stopping at the lighthouse. She is owned by Messrs. Bowker and O’Hagen, and we believe is insured.’”
The Argus, 31st January 1874 :
“The wreck of the Rose of Australia sold at auction for L101.”
