The following report is transcribed from The Courier (Hobart), 24th November 1856 :

Wreck of the Neptune. - This ketch brought a cargo of shells to Kiama, and lay at anchor for several days waiting for calm weather to unload; but on the morning of Monday, the 3rd instant, she parted from her anchors, and was driven against the rocks close to the jetty. In despite of every effort to save her she became a total wreck. The Neptune was built at Brisbane Water, and was, for some time past, a regular trader to that port. She was not insured; and Mr. E. Parks, who was both the captain and owner of her, estimates his loss at L230. - Illawarra Mercury.
