The Brisbane Courier, 3rd January 1871 :

“The Maid of Riverton left Jervis Bay on Thursday week for Sydney. After getting out of Curranbene [Currumbene] Creek, it came on to blow a strong S. S. E. gale, and she was compelled to anchor opposite the old township in Jervis Bay. She rode out the gale on Friday, and on Saturday she dragged her anchors, and went on to the reef at the entrance to the creek, where she lies a total wreck. She is the property of Messrs. Longfield and Dent, of Jervis Bay, and was loaded with timber, and is insured in the Australian office for L600. - S. M. Herald, December 31.”
