The following report was transcribed from The Brisbane Courier, 18th June 1889 :

“The ketch Maggie Scott, which was an old vessel of 50 tons, foundered off Cape St. George on Friday morning. The vessel was bound from Tomakin Creek to Sydney with a cargo of 13,500 feet of hardwood, but at 11 o’clock on Friday morning it was found that she had sprung a leak, and as the water could not be kept under the crew took to the boats. The ketch sank shortly afterwards, and the crew were a little later on picked up by the barque Veritas and brought to Sydney. The ketch belonged to Mr. John Henderson of Newcastle.”

The Brisbane Courier, 25th June 1889 :

“The Marine Board to-day found that the ketch Maggie Scott, which recently foundered off Shoalhaven, was justifiably abandoned by Captain Denton and his crew. The board presented Captain Creighton, of the barque Veritas, with a valuable pair of marine glasses for rendering assistance to the crew of the Maggie Scott after the latter vessel foundered.”
