The Sydney Mail, 13th September 1879 :
“The schooner Bertha, Captain Mahlow [Mahler], of Sydney, bound for Kiama, was wrecked this morning near Point Bass; all hands were saved. She is on the rocks, and will be a total wreck. There is another wreck near the Five Islands, supposed to be the Franze, both owned by Mr. F. W. Cook, Sydney. These vessels for some time past have been engaged in supplying bluestone metal for the government.”
