The Maitland Mercury and Hunter River General Advertiser, 20th April 1853 :

 

“The schooner Chase was sold by Mr. Mort on Saturday to H. F. Kemp, Esq., for L950 cash.”

 

The Maitland Mercury and Hunter River General Advertiser, 11th May 1853 :

 

“We have been informed by a gentleman arrived from the southward that a fine little vessel of 40 tons, called the Chase, was driven on the rocks in endeavouring to enter the mouth of the Shoalhaven River, on Sunday evening, May 1, and that little or no hope was entertained of her being again got off. Owner and master, Mr. Kemp of Sydney. - Wollongong Correspondent. - The schooner Chase in a sudden change of wind was driven on the rocks, entering the channel of the Shoalhaven River, remaining there for some hours, when she was got off, sustaining very slight injury, and will be in Sydney in a few days.- Herald, May 9.

 

Kemp was later to become the first Mayor in the Shoalhaven.
